My food resolutions for 2014 start with getting my newly-remodeled kitchen up and running. I resolve to go through everything I have for the kitchen (dishes, storage, linens, even food), and donate everything that I don’t use. I’m looking forward to starting the new year with organized cupboards, storage containers with matching lids, alphabetized spices, and a running list of things I need to have for a useful and efficient kitchen. I’m going to set up a command center with all of my Table365 tools: lists of family favorites, recipe binder, lunch ideas list, and pantry & freezer lists. Now that I have a working range again, I’m going to stock my freezer with dishes that need to be cooked in the oven. I’m adding the slow cooker and some microwavable meals to my permanent repertoire. I’m excited to have the refrigerator back in the house (instead of outside on the patio) and a dishwasher again! Doing without my kitchen “basics” has made me very grateful to have a kitchen again, and I’m looking forward to doing lots of meal planning and preparation to feed my family in the new year. Cheers!
I have two food-related resolutions for the coming year: reduce food waste and experiment more with some recipes and cooking techniques that may make getting meals on the table that much easier. I think we can reduce food waste by planning fewer meals through the week so that we really need to use our leftovers. My girls do not eat as much as I think they are going to (well, on any given day at any rate), so often we have more food left over than I think we will. The second resolution is not as high a priority, but I do love cooking, so when I have the time I like to look for recipes and techniques that could become new staples in our weekly rotation.
