Trick or Treat!
Halloween used to be one of the only times during the year that children had candy. Now, not only do children have access to candy consistently throughout the year, but they also have many other sources of sugar and sweeteners in their diets.
Here’s how to keep the fun in Halloween without a complete sugar overload for your family:
Food Treats for Trick-or-Treating:
- Yogurt-covered raisins
- Fruit leather
- Pretzels
- Candy made with natural ingredients
Food Treats for Snacking and Parties:
- Sliced apples with caramel dip
- Popcorn and Caramel corn
- See our Pinterest Halloween Page for photos of these creative ideas:
- Banana Ghosts
- Clementine Pumpkins
- Cut-out Halloween Shapes Sandwiches
- Jack-o-Lantern Quesadilla or Cheese Sandwich
- Pretzel and Cheese Brooms
- Vegetable Tray Skeletons
Non-food Treats:
- Stickers
- Play dough
- Silly Putty

- Bouncy Balls
Tricks:
Watch for these ingredients in Halloween candies and reduce them (offer a trade with your children for some of the better treats listed above):
- High fructose corn syrup
- Artificial colors
- Nuts (for children with nut allergies)
- Hard candies that can be a choking hazard
Have a spooktacular Halloween!
