As we enter into this week of Thanksgiving, Kimberly and I have been reflecting on the intention and practice of giving thanks. As we are busy shopping and preparing our holiday feasts, we want to do it with a sense of grace and gratitude.
Instead of a focus on the long to-do lists, the desire to have a perfectly decorated and pristinely clean home, and a bon appetite worthy spread, we’re intentionally thinking about how grateful we are to have the ability to do these things, and are attempting to do them with a measure of grace.
Gratitude
- Gratitude for a holiday that reminds us to have a renewed focus on giving thanks.
- Gratitude and appreciation for the abundant food choices: healthy, convenient, local, exotic, prepared, and raw ingredients.
- Gratitude that we have safe and modern appliances to help us cook and clean and preserve our food.
- Gratitude for all those who work to grow, harvest, market, prepare, and serve the food to feed and nourish our families.
Grace
- Grace to make an effort to do the difficult things with grace because we are grateful to have the health and ability to do go shopping and prepare meals.
- Grace to see feeding our families not as a chore but an opportunity to nourish our families with healthy foods and loving care.
- Grace to re-focus our busy lives with the Thanksgiving holiday, reminding us that food is to be appreciated and respected.
- Grace in sharing a meal with others. During Thanksgiving and the holiday season, we’ll work to remember that the what we really want to do is to gather with others: for potluck, soup supper, a feast, or humble meal with the intention that food is best when shared.
We’re thankful that you join us every week as we aspire to inspire your efforts in Feeding Your Family with health and love.
Happy Thanksgiving!
