Here’s what Table365 partners Kimberly and Sharon have to say:
I love food and I love to eat so I look for recipes and inspiration anywhere and everywhere! Magazines, cookbooks, restaurants, markets, friends, websites, and blogs. I also use all of Kimberly’s recipe sources, and in addition to Ina Garten (Barefoot Contessa) and Mark Bittman, I also rely on the big yellow Gourmet Cookbook edited by Ruth Reichl for an endless supply of excellent recipes. I like to read cookbooks like novels so I am always scanning the library for new cookbooks and I usually bring a stack home to read based on the season or my current food interest. If I mark a number of the recipes then I buy the book because I know I will use it multiple times. I especially like to use local recipe sources (magazines, cookbooks, websites from local chefs and cooks) because I know I will be able to find local, high quality ingredients .
Most of the recipes I use on a weekly basis are ones I have used again and again over many years. I keep track of them on my Family Favorites List where I reference the source of each recipe. That makes it easier for me to find them again.
There are times when I really do need new inspiration so here are a few of my favorite resources – some are old reliables, some are recent finds (a few of the online resources also have apps that make it easy to search on the go):
- Barefoot Contessa Cookbooks – I have them all and know that all her recipes will turn out great. I found a great combined index for all her cookbooks on her website that makes searching for a specific recipe or by ingredient incredibly easy.
- Mark Bittman, How to Cook Everything – This has been a great resource and I keep learning a lot about improvising from all the suggestions he offers.
- Food52 – Lots of good inspiration, although I think of these as more “foodie” recipes.
- SmittenKitchen – A fellow blogger with some very accessible recipes.
- Cook’s Illustrated – Requires a subscription for many recipes, but another reliable source for me.
- Epicurious and Allrecipes – These are especially useful when searching for something to make with a specific ingredient.
I get tired of cooking the same old recipes. When I’m needing something new, I’ll google the main ingredients I have on hand or what I have a craving for (eg., “Salmon, kalamata olives, quinoa recipe”) and see what pops up that looks delicious and easy. I’ve found many new, good recipes this way!
Btw, love your blog and website!!
