Once children pass the toddler stage, they can be an active part of preparing for the Thanksgiving celebration. They’ll be proud to see their contributions as part of the meal, and it may give you some time to focus on the last parts of meal preparation.
- Place cards: children can write on and/or create place cards for the Thanksgiving table
- Centerpiece: gather the objects to be arranged, or let the kids pick leaves, pine cones, decorative squash, and candles to decorate the table
- Table runner: use a thick roll of brown wrap as a table runner down the length of the table and let the children, or everyone, write messages of gratitude with colored pencils
- Coloring contest: print Thanksgiving theme coloring pages from Pinterest and use the colored sheets to decorate the dining room walls – bonus to come up with categories for prizes
- Interview questions: give the children index cards and have them write questions to be used to “interview” other people at the dinner table on topics like their favorite movie, food, sport, book, song, etc.
- Talent show: let the kids plan and perform a talent show after the Thanksgiving meal. They can recite a poem, sing songs, play an instrument, perform dance or karate moves, or do magic tricks.
Enjoy the giggles with the gobble!
