Warm up a cold day or evening with GINGER TEA or a GINGER HOT TODDY
Spicy ginger compliments sweetness (apples, honey, chocolate) and tastes like the holidays. Ginger also aids digestion, a bonus in a season of many treats and large meals. Ginger tea can be made with fresh ginger or with tea bags or loose tea. Enjoy a cup of hot tea to warm up, soothe a sore throat, or as an after-dinner, before-bed drink.
Fresh Ginger Tea serves 2
- 1/4 cup sliced fresh ginger root
- 2 cups boiling water
- 2 lemon slices (optional)
- honey to sweeten tea (optional)
- Peel and slice ginger root while bringing 2 cups of cold water to a boil. 2. Add the sliced ginger to the boiling water and let simmer 10-20 minutes. 3. Strain out ginger and pour into two cups. 4. Top with lemon slice and add 1 spoonful of honey to sweeten (if desired).

We discovered delicious cocktail syrup (Timber City Ginger) at our farmers market. You can find many versions online, but I suggest you check your local food markets for a zesty “homemade version.” It’s a fantastic addition to hot holiday beverages like apple cider and a hot toddy.
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 3 tablespoons ginger syrup
- 1 shot of bourbon whiskey
- Boiling water
